I am fascinated how chance or uncertainty can act as a gateway to discovery and lead me to find new images. My present series of work has been inspired by science.
I set my 'initial conditions' by reducing my materials to a basic minimum, using black and white primer only. Instead of choosing a subject matter I start by making spontaneous, arbitrary marks using a process of dripping, throwing and pouring the paint as well as tilting and shaking the canvas. By this method and using my intuition to balance, add to or dilute the medium, some startling new forms emerge.
I found this exiting experimental way of working has produced images ranging from the deceptively simple to very complex original forms.
All the works in this series are black and white primer on canvas.
